The Carpentries teach researchers foundational computational and data science skills through short, impactful workshops. We aim to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the Carpentries methodologies and operations and provide a venue to discuss how to build a Carpentries program at your institution.

Join us for an interactive workshop focused on how to get started with Data Carpentry and/or Software Carpentry at your institutions. In typical Carpentries style, we’ll have a group of expert helpers available to guide you through activities to develop a plan for getting active with the Carpentries yourself, starting a Carpentries workshop program at your institution, and building and maintaining a local Carpentries community. We’ll talk about things like:
Who: This workshop is for RDAP 2018 Conference attendees who are interested in learning more about building a Carpentries program at their own institutions. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the Carpentries to attend this workshop.
Where: Chicago Hilton, Chicago, IL. Get directions with OpenStreetMap or Google Maps.

Requirements: We recommend that participants bring a laptop or tablet device with an attached keyboard for easy typing. The only software required is a web browser. No special software needs to be installed. Participants are also required to abide by Software Carpentry's Code of Conduct.
